Could Two-Face be getting his own spin-off? Matt Reeves gives a coy tease that Harvey Dent may be on his way to The Batman universe.
The Batman is getting its first spin-off in just a few days with the release of The Penguin. However, before the series has even released, Matt Reeves has confirmed that another show is in development. While details about this project are sparse to none, Reeves may has tipped his hand too far in a recent interview, revealing that a show chronicling Harvey Dent’s time before Two-Face may be in the cards for the burgeoning franchise, admitting that line of thinking from The Direct was “certainly in the way that our conversations have gone.”
At first blush, it may seem exciting to bring a more animated villain such as Two-Face into The Batman universe given how grounded The Penguin is shaping up to be. However, given the question asked to Matt Reeves was specifically about a legal drama focused on Harvey Dent, it’s likely that any unique traits gained by the character in the wake of his accident would likely be sparse to none.
Two-Face’s Future In The Batman Projects
A legal drama focused around Two-Face being a corrupt DA could certainly be an interesting premise, especially given how good early reviews have been for The Penguin. However, it may be well-trodden ground by the time Matt Reeves gets to it, especially with The Batman‘s sequel being his next priority over a potential Harvey Dent show.
This is because it’s been confirmed that Harvey Dent will be appearing in Joker: Folie à Deux, though he won’t be transformed into Two-Face during the events of the film. If Matt Reeves does make a spin-off like The Penguin with the above premise, it would be two grounded takes on The Batman tackling similar stories within a handful of years of each other, potentially burning viewers out on the concept.
The Penguin is set to drop on HBO on September 19th, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
