Marvel Studios has swapped the release dates for The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Highly-anticipated sequels within the Marvel Cinematic Universe are set to hit theaters in 2023. Two of those include the Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Both films were originally set to hit theaters on February 17, 2023 and July 28, 2023 respectively. Now, Disney has announced that those two releases are being swapped.
According to reports, this is due to the fact that Quantumania is further along in its creative process than The Marvels, given that the former film has already wrapped principal photography. Between those two films, the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will debut on May 5, 2023.
In regards to Marvel Studios’ upcoming films, each looks to further connect not just with its respective predecessors, but also with some of the new content released exclusively on Disney Plus. Actor Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut in the first season finale of Loki, and is set to appear as Kang the Conqueror in Quantumania. Meanwhile, both WandaVision and Ms. Marvel feature Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) respectively, both of which will also appear alongside Brie Larson in The Marvels.
The third Ant-Man film is directed by Peyton Reed from a script written by Jeff Loveness and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors and Bill Murray.
The Captain Marvel sequel is directed by Nia DaCosta from a script written by Megan McDonnell and stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and Samuel L. Jackson.
