Is Batman taking on The Penguin?

Will Robert Pattinson make an appearance in The Penguin? The Batman director Matt Reeves speaks on a potential cameo from the Caped Crusader.

The Batman was a smash hit with audiences, bringing glory back to DC after a string of controversial flops. Given that success, the studio immediately gave Matt Reeves carte blanche as to how he continues his franchise. This resulted in a sequel to Robert Pattinson’s grand debut as The Dark Knight being greenlit, as well as a spin-off series titled The Penguin focusing on Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb.

The Penguin was billed as a bridge connecting The Batman to its sequel by Matt Reeves and his team. This led many to assume that Robert Pattinson would play a role in the series. One popular theory was that the actor would appear as Bruce Wayne and not Batman, interacting with Oz Cobb as his philanthropist persona. However, as the months went on, there wasn’t a whiff that Pattinson would make so much as a cameo in DC’s upcoming HBO series.

Will Batman Appear In The Penguin Series?

With The Penguin just a week from release, Matt Reeves has finally come out to share a few words with the press. This included new details about the upcoming sequel to The Batman, as well as more information about the HBO series itself. Reeves also came with the heartbreaking confirmation that Robert Pattinson won’t be making a cameo as DC’s greatest detective in the project.

“Rob is not going to be in the show,” Reeves told TotalFilm in a recent chat. “I’d rather take the Band-Aid off now. We did talk about all that but we felt the best way to do this was to go on a grand exploration of a guy grabbing for power in this moment.”

While some fans may be disappointed that Robert Pattinson won’t be appearing in The Penguin, it makes sense that Matt Reeves would want to keep the focus on the titular character instead of having the internet solely focus on a cameo. That being said, it’ll be interesting to see how Reeves sets up his sequel to The Batman if the titular DC hero doesn’t even appear in the project!

The Penguin is set to drop on HBO on September 19th, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
