Could Thomas Jane have made his return to the Marvel universe? The Punisher actor speaks on if he was asked to reprise his iconic role in Deadpool and Wolverine.
While fans expected Deadpool and Wolverine to honor the Marvel films outside of the MCU, there was a shocking amount of love paid to the odd-ball projects of the early 2000s. This included the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade. However, this left some fans scratching their head as to why Thomas Jane was left out as The Punisher.
Before Jon Bernthal took on the role in Marvel’s Netflix shows (and now, the MCU), fans considered Thomas Jane to be the definitive version of The Punisher. And with his film’s villain The Russian making an appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine, many assumed Jane would follow suit. Yet with it now being confirmed that he isn’t in the film, some are questioning if Jane rejected the chance to return, or if he simply wasn’t asked to reprise his role.
Thomas Jane Speaks On His Absence In ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’
Thomas Jane spoke about a potential appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine in a recent talk with The Direct. When he was asked if he was ever asked to reprise his role as The Punisher in the MCU, the actor gave a simple “Nope”, discounting the idea that he rejected the opportunity to return as the iconic Marvel hero.
While it’s a shame that Thomas Jane was passed over for a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine, it does make sense. The movie was already packed to the gills with past Marvel actors making their return and connecting the franchise to the MCU. Not every hero could make the cut, leaving his incarnation of The Punisher on the cutting room floor just like the proposed Nicolas Cage cameo as Ghost Rider.
