During SDCC this year, a lot of great things came out of Hall H. We pretty much got what we expected and more. From Justice League, to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a lot of great footage was shown at this year’s Hall H panel. What we didn’t get was footage from the much-anticipated Thor: Ragnarok.
The upcoming third film in the Thor trilogy see Thor and Hulk heading to Asgard for an incredible comedy-action buddy adventure. Along their way, they’ll encounter a number of Thor-related Marvel characters, such as Hela, Grandmaster, Skurge, and Thor’s estranged brother Loki. That’s all we really know about the plot for Thor: Ragnarok, and many of us were hoping to get some more info on the film in the form of a trailer or some footage.
Unfortunately, Thor: Ragnarok didn’t have any footage to show at the time, as it was still early into production. But thanks to director Taika Waititi, we weren’t left with nothing. Waititi showed fans at Hall H a hilarious mockumentary that revealed what Thor was doing during the events of Captain America: Civil War.
The video was well-received, so much so that fans actually started a petition to turn into an actual series on Netflix! It turns out that the short actually created a breakout star in the form of Darryl, Thor’s mortal Australian roommate. Not since Agent Coulson have fans been so incredibly enamored with an original MCU side character. Taika Waititi is very aware of the video’s and Darryl’s, popularity, and has recently addressed if we’ll ever see Thor’s roomie ever again:
“Thor briefly rented a room in a flat in Australia after the Ultron debacle. Just to get some downtime – to get away from The Avengers, to get away from America. So he had a little downtime in Australian. And he met this guy Darryl and they shared a flat together. So that’s Darryl. I think you probably could see him again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.”
Waititi didn’t state when or where we’d see Darryl again, but it’s nice to know that he’s in the directors mind. The chances of Daryl showing up in Thor: Ragnarok are pretty slim, since that film likely won’t be spending much (if any) time on earth. But who knows? Maybe Thor and Hulk will stop in Australia for a few minutes during their cosmic road trip.
Thor: Ragnarok releases in theater on November 3, 2017.
