Somehow, The Leader returned!

Where has The Leader been for nearly 20 years? Tim Blake Nelson reveals Captain America: Brave New World will address his character’s Marvel Cinematic Universe absence.

Fans were shocked when it was revealed that Tim Blake Nelson would be returning to his role as The Leader 17 years following his last appearance in The Incredible Hulk. This left many to wonder where the character had been throughout the rest of the MCU. While Nelson couldn’t tip his hand, he did admit that all will be revealed once Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters in 2025.

“[I’m] very excited about it,” Nelson told Screen Rant in a recent interview. “I’m headed to Atlanta tomorrow to continue working on that. It’s been very exciting to bring back a character from 16 years ago and imagine how he has aged with me and how that has manifested. The Marvel team has come up with a really interesting explanation – revelation, I should say, as to what he’s been up to for 16 years and why,”

It’s clear that there’s a reason that Tim Blake Nelson will be reappearing in Captain America: Brave New World of all places. Knowing The Leader’s reputation in Marvel comics, it wouldn’t be surprising if the villain was lying in wait throughout the entire history of the MCU just to pull his most devious plan yet!

The Fall Of The Hulks In Captain America: Brave New World

Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader isn’t the only character from The Incredible Hulk making his MCU return in Captain America: Brave New World. He’ll be joined by Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, now played by Harrison Ford following William Hurt’s tragic passing. Given this fact, it’s likely whatever reason Marvel has for The Leader being back is likely tied to Ross.

It’s likely fans have already seen The Leader’s influence. In footage shown off for Captain America: Brave New World at CinemaCon, it’s clear that there’s some sort of mind control going on during an attack on a number of politicians. Could Tim Blake Nelson’s character be trying to take down Thunderbolt Ross? Or, even worse, is he now working for the government in the MCU?

Captain America: Brave New World is currently slated to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
