A brand new concept design imagines Tom Cruise taking on the role of Iron Man for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
One of Marvel’s most popular “What If…?” casting choices was Tom Cruise as Iron Man. The iconic Mission Impossible star was in the running for the role of Tony Stark but things clearly didn’t work out. We’re not fretting as we received Robert Downey Jr.’s masterclass performance as Marvel Studios’ flagship character. Still, one can’t help but wonder what Tom Cruise could have done with the role of Tony Stark. After all, it is pretty much perfect casting.
Rumors have suggested for quite some time that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is filled with dozens of cameos and appearances. With the multiverse at your disposal, why wouldn’t you take advantage of it? One appearance that fans are hoping to see is Tom Cruise as an alternate version of Iron Man. Could it happen? With the multiverse, anything is possible! Marvel Studios hasn’t shied away from being self-referential so it’s possible that Tom Cruise could finally get his chance to play Iron Man.
Of course, these are just fan expectations and nothing is concrete. Seeing as the idea is intriguing, artist spdrmnkyxxiii has imagined a concept design where Tom Cruise takes on the role of Iron Man for Benedict Cumberbatch’s second solo outing as Doctor Strange.
