Venom director Reuben Fleischer addresses where the future lies for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man going up against Tom Hardy’s Venom in a future movie.
While Sony and Marvel have come to an agreement that sees Tom Holland’s Spider-Man get one more solo film in the MCU and an appearance in another movie (presumably another Avengers team-up), Sony is waiting to pit the webslinger against Tom Hardy’s Venom. While it isn’t clear whether this happens after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man gets transported into another universe or if Venom becomes loosely attached to the MCU, Reuben Fleischer is excited to see the pair finally fight.
In an interview with Fandom ahead of Reuben Fleischer’s Zombieland: Double Tap, the director revealed that the exciting thing about all the recent news coming out of Sony and Marvel is finally seeing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man take on Tom Hardy’s Venom. He mentions that since the first Venom film changed the symbiote’s origin because it was so intricately tied to Spider-Man in the comics, the confrontation between Tom Hardy and Tom Holland will be even more exciting. Take a look at his comments below.
“That’s where it’s all going to lead. And that’s the exciting thing, because we changed the origin of Venom … in the comics, he evolved from Spider-Man but because of the Marvel-Sony thing we weren’t able to that. And so the thing I think it’s building towards, and will be exciting to see, is when they actually do confront each other.”
