Tom Holland set the record straight on his ongoing Spider-Man contract between Marvel and Sony.
Following the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was reported that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios would be parting ways on their collaboration together, effectively removing Tom Holland from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, a new deal was struck, renewing the deal for reportedly one more collaboration between the two studios as well as one more appearance for Tom Holland in one of Marvel Studios’ other films separate from Sony.
However, Tom Holland recently addressed such reports and debunked them as inaccurate. While speaking with THR regarding his upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor clarified the nature of the contract between Sony and Marvel Studios, revealing that it’s not as cut-and-dry as some have heard:
“Yeah, that’s not accurate at all. The new deal that was struck up was this understanding between the two studios that should Marvel want me to appear in one of their movies, then it would be an open conversation. I don’t think it’s as black and white as, ‘I have a three-picture deal with Marvel and a three-picture deal with Sony.’ It’s just this open conversation and open dialogue between Mr. [Bob] Iger [Walt Disney Co. executive chairman] and Mr. [Tom] Rothman [chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group].”
Although Spider-Man: No Way Home has been described as a culmination of Tom Holland’s trilogy of films that began with 2017’s Homecoming, Amy Pascal recently announced that Sony will continue their collaboration with Marvel Studios on another trilogy of films that will continue the story of Peter Parker – likely in his college years.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
