Is Werewolf By Night finally getting a sequel? Director Michael Giacchino gives his thoughts on why there’s been no follow-up to the Disney Plus hit.
Werewolf By Night is an oft-forgotten success of Marvel’s post-Endgame slate. It was a highly beloved Halloween special that took swings no other MCU project has taken before, and won big with critics because of it. This left many fans asking why the special presentation hasn’t gotten a sequel yet. According to director Michael Giacchino, it simply comes down to bad timing in the industry.
“There’s been a lot going on in the industry and everyone sort of recalibrating,” Giacchino told entertainment reporter Brandon Davis in a recent interview. “I think certain things had to be just put aside for the moment. We’ll get there.”
It’s likely that Michael Giacchino is referring to Marvel’s recent recalibrations when it comes to releasing content for the MCU. The studio has pumped the breaks on how many projects they’re putting out, especially on Disney Plus. It makes sense that a sequel to Werewolf By Night, a project with no ties to the broader universe, would suffer from these schedule shifts.
When Will Werewolf By Night Get A Sequel?
Luckily, it seems all hope for a sequel isn’t dead. Following director Michael Giacchino’s comments, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus posted a cryptic tease about when a follow-up could be hitting Disney Plus. According to Perez, Marvel will continue the story of Werewolf By Night after Avengers: Secret Wars ends the current phase of the MCU.
It’s unclear if this means Werewolf By Night will get a direct sequel on Disney Plus. It’s long been speculated that Marvel introduced the characters showcased in the special to make an appearance in a Midnight Suns movie for the MCU. It’s possible that the studio is simply waiting until Avengers: Secret Wars wraps before committing to another expensive team-up movie.
Werewolf by Night is now streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the special, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
