Cate Blanchett is confirmed to make her return as Hela in season 2 of What If…? on Disney Plus. A new rumor reveals the details of her sophomore outing in the MCU.

What If…? season 2 seems set to exceed all expectations, with the rumored episode titles teasing wild scenarios never thought possible in the MCU, including the creation of a brand new Native American superhero. The newest for the Disney Plus series teases Cate Blanchett’s return as Hela, the Asgardian princess finding her way into the mystical city of Ta-Lo from Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings:

“#WhatIf… Hela found the Ten Rings will feature Hela being kicked out of Asgard like in Thor: Ragnarok,” Scooper CanWeGetSomeToast revealed. “But instead of being imprisoned in Hel, she finds herself accepted by Ta-Lo and their inhabitants, learning their martial arts. Odin will invade and war between Asgard and Ta-Lo will break out. Hela’s armor will be all white instead of black and green.”

Putting Hela at the center of a mystical war between Ta-Lo and Asgard is certainly an intriguing premise (and likely one that’ll hold a Lord of the Rings reference or two given Cate Blanchett’s career!). The MCU seems to be fully embracing the weird side of their multiverse with What If…? season 2. Now all fans need is a Mini Marvels appearance on one of these Disney Plus shows!

A Multiverse of Possibilities

What If…? features the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell and other major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series “flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways,” according to Marvel’s official description of the series.

In addition to the second season of What If…?, Marvel is also working on two more animated series — Marvel Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The former is a direct spin-off of What If…? episode five, which revolves around a Marvel Cinematic Universe that suffers from a zombie plague.
