The rating for Joker: Folie à Deux has officially been revealed! The Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga-led DC Comics spin-off has a surprisingly adult rating.
Fans have been worried about Joker: Folie à Deux ever since it was revealed that it would be a jukebox musical. While it’s clear the movie would have some songs thanks to Lady Gaga’s inclusion, many worried that the tone would depart too much from the original movie that won Joaquin Phoenix his Oscar.
Luckily, it seems Joker: Folie à Deux has kept a consistent rating as its predecessor. The DC Comics film has officially been rated R for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.” This rating even bumps up the rating from the sequel, with the original not having the brief nudity tag.
Is Joker: Folie à Deux Doomed?
It’s no secret DC movies have been struggling at the box office recently, with many fans losing interest due to superhero fatigue and the impending reboot. While the original film made Gangbusters back in 2019 at the height of superhero mania, some fans worry Joker: Folie à Deux may be yet another box office bomb.
The idea of Joker: Folie à Deux being a musical has soured many fans, especially given most of the songs won’t be originals. Joker 2 is also carrying an absolutely massive budget thanks to Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix’s paydays. While it’s possible the film breaks even, it’ll likely need close to the billion-dollar box office it got the first time around.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release on October 4, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
