Willem Dafoe Interested In Playing Joker Imposter Opposite Joaquin Phoenix

Jokerz!

Aquaman Willem Dafoe Joaquin Phoenix Joker

Spider-Man and Aquaman star Willem Dafoe says he’s interested in going up against Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck as a Joker imposter.

It has been reported another Joker film is in development, but whether it happens and if Joaquin Phoenix returns remains to be seen. However, some fans online are more interested in seeing Willem Dafoe play the Joker instead, especially after his recent return as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In an interview with British GQ, Willem Dafoe talked about the possibility of playing the Joker, and brought up an interesting idea that involves Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck:

“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter. So it would be possible to have not duelling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did. I fantasised about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you’re the first one.”

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:

Director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the potential sequel, Willem Dafoe, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
