‘X-Men ’97’ Disney Plus Series Gets Shocking Rotten Tomatoes Score

The X-Men are BACK!

X-Men 97 Marvel

Did X-Men ’97 break the Disney Plus curse? The latest Marvel series has received a surprising score on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been struggling on Rotten Tomatoes as of late. While almost all their movies and shows have still been highly loved by audiences, critics have taken a much harsher tone when addressing the cinematic universe. The MCU’s Disney Plus offerings have taken the worst of it, hitting low after franchise low.

Many expected X-Men ’97 to continue the trend of lackluster critical response, especially given the series seemed to be taking a similar visual design to the previous MCU Disney Plus series. However, it seems the animated revival has finally broken Marvel’s curse, currently sitting at a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes (and a slightly lower audience score at 93%).

Are The X-Men The MCU’s Future?

The mutants shall inherit the Earth! X-Men ’97 blowing expectations out of the water isn’t the only way the iconic team is taking over Disney. With the fifth and sixth Avengers films set to come out in the next few years, fans have speculated that the universe will shift its focus over to mutants in the following phases.

This concept was supported with a few scoops that came at the end of last year, suggesting that the X-Men will be Marvel’s main focus going forward, with multiple mutant-led projects in development for the MCU. In turn, other characters like those leading the Avengers will be taking a backseat to allow the newest super team some breathing room.

Development for the MCU’s first X-Men movie seems to be well underway. Marvel reportedly held pitch meetings for the reboot last year, with current rumors suggesting that Mister Sinister is set to be the lead villain when the film finally comes to light. This makes sense, given X-Men ’97 is set to bring the character back into the public eye after having never made it to the big screen.
