Is Ahsoka in trouble? Season 2 plans are reportedly being shuffled around in case the Disney Plus series ends up getting cancelled.
In the modern age of streaming, fans have become accustomed to the fact that their favorite shows might get cancelled at any time. It’s rare for almost any show to get a season 2, with even juggernauts like Disney Plus cutting their losses with shows like The Acolyte. This new reality is one that the showrunners of Ahsoka are actively grappling with ahead of their return.
A new report from insider DanielRPK reveals that Dave Filoni and his team are reworking their plans for Ahsoka season 2 to give the series a satisfying ending in case Disney Plus tries to pull the plug on the project after their sophomore season. While it’s hard to imagine that such a fan-favorite show could get cancelled, it wouldn’t be the first time a streamer cut down a popular show just because it was slightly less popular the second time around.
The Future Of Star Wars On Disney Plus
For a long time, Disney Plus was the bastion of the Star Wars franchise. Yet with projects like Ahsoka and The Acolyte relying more and more on an entire extended universe of lore, it seems Lucasfilm may be reevaluating their tactics before giving anything a season 2 (or 3!). Not much in the way of new projects were announced for the streaming service in the past year, with most of the focus being on their feature film division.
Even Disney Plus heavy-hitters like The Mandalorian have been shifted to films instead of getting a new season. This leaves the fate of Ahsoka up in the air after season 2, with the studio potentially shifting away from their prestige television offerings as the market begins to settle. So while it may be disappointing that the show ends up cancelled, at least the talent behind it are making sure things have a satisfying end.
