Set photos from the upcoming film Batgirl reveal Brendan Fraser’s Firefly mask.
2022 is perhaps the most exciting year to be a fan of DC Comics movies. Kicking the year off, we had The Suicide Squad spin-off sequel series Peacemaker on HBO Max, which received much acclaim. A few weeks after the first season finale, we got the long-awaited theatrical premiere of The Batman, which has also seen much critical acclaim. Now, fans are looking forward to the new releases set to hit both theaters and exclusively on HBO Max. One of those projects is none other than Batgirl, which will feature Brendan Fraser as the antagonist Firefly.
In his second collaboration in the world of DC Comics after Doom Patrol, Brendan Fraser’s Firefly will be facing off against Leslie Grace’s titular Batgirl, which will be set in the ongoing continuity of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). We previously had some glimpses at what Brendan Fraser’s Firefly will look like, and a selection of new set photos give us our best look yet at his mask.

Although audiences will be visiting Matt Reeves’ new take on Gotham City with The Batman, Batgirl will bring audiences back to the version of the iconic city as seen in the ongoing DCEU. However, it appears that we will be seeing Michael Keaton’s version of the Caped Crusader in this film rather than Ben Affleck’s, teasing the events of the upcoming new DCEU film, The Flash. Either way, it will be exciting to see Firefly brought to life in the film.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script for the DCEU film.
DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. JK Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser will appear as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton is returning as his version of Batman.
Batgirl will hit HBO Max sometime this year. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Brendan Fraser’s Firefly as well as the future of the DCEU, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
