It’s always nice to see a familiar Clayface! A recent Creature Commandos panel reveals the voice actor behind the malleable menace in the DC Universe.
Creature Commandos is shaping up to be a massive treat for longtime fans as they head into a brand new DC Universe. So many unique and fan-favorite characters have made their debut in the teasers for the series. One of the most shocking faces was perhaps the most well known, with the Batman villain Clayface being revealed in one of the most recent trailers fighting Rick Flag Sr.
Despite the character being unmistakably Clayface, it wasn’t clear who would be playing the character in Creature Commandos. Like many things with the DC Universe (and comic book projects in general), reveals have been kept close to the studios’ chest. However, during a recent Rotten Tomatoes panel to promote the series, Alan Tudyk let it slip that he would be the voice actor behind Clayface in the show.
“I think it’s a spoiler, I don’t think I’ve been able to [say it]. Anyway, I play, actually, Clayface in [Creature Commandos].”
Alan Tudyk Breaks Down His Role As Clayface
Diehard DC Universe fans likely know that this isn’t the first time Alan Tudyk has played Clayface. He’s previously starred as the terra thespian in the adult animated comedy Harley Quinn. However, it seems he’ll be taking a much different approach to the character in Creature Commandos, admitting that the show focuses much more on the ruthless villain aspect of the Batman rogue that fans have missed in his prior performances.
“So, I play Clayface in Harley Quinn. And he sounds like this! [Exaggerated thespian accent]. And he’s an idiot! And he’s always like ‘what’s my motivation here? Daddy didn’t love me.’ Yeah, it’s that. And then in [Creature Commandos], Clayface is a killer. [Frank Grillo and I] have a huge fight. He’s a homicidal maniac.”
“So it’s the same character. That’s what’s great- what’s really cool about DC. I get to play the actual same character two completely different ways. And I like them both, and it’s really nice that James let me play Clayface. I was so happy. I didn’t even have to ask. I was going to ask. When I saw it in there, he let me know that I got to do it.”
Clayface isn’t the only character Alan Tudyk is playing in the DC Universe. Alongside Clayface, he will be lending his talents to Doctor Phosphorous in Creature Commandos. He’s also been cast in a top secret role in the upcoming Superman movie. While it may seem greedy for one voice actor to get three characters, anyone familiar with Tudyk’s range knows that he’ll be able to nail any one of them.
Creature Commandos is scheduled to premiere on Max on December 5th. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
