Garth Davis will direct a brand new Tron movie starring Jared Leto in the lead role.
It’s been confirmed by Deadline that Garth Davis will helm a brand new Tron movie with Blade Runner 2049 and Suicide Squad star Jared Leto in the lead role. The franchise was last seen in 2010 with Tron: Legacy, and was originally met with mixed reviews from critics. However in the years since it has quickly built up a cult following of fans who love the cast, the aesthetics and that truly iconic Daft Punk soundtrack. Garth Davis is best known for directing Mary Magdalene and the Oscar nominated Lion in 2016.
Deadline reported that Davis’ “aggressive” pursuit of the film convinced Disney executives that he’s the right director for the job. It’s important to note that the film hasn’t been completely greenlit by Disney, but the script has been written by Jesse Wigutow, with Jared Leto producing alongside Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook. Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski had previously opened up about the possibilities of a sequel, saying that he hoped Disney pushed forward with the franchise. It looks like he got his wish.
