‘Gotham Knights’ Gets Ruthless Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus

Something rotten comes to Gotham!

Gotham Knights was an attempt by The CW to expand past the Arrowverse by exploring the murder of Batman in a whole new universe. However, it seems as though the only murder people care about is the one of the show at the hands of critics.

Gotham Knights premiered on the CW on March 14 and was met with immediate backlash from critics and fans alike. The show scored a dismal 18% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience score only able to climb to 51%. Even the critics consensus seems to mock the show’s quality, stating that you should “Never send amateurs to do a Batman’s job”.

These reviews mark a new low for The CW with their DC Comics properties. Even though Gotham Knights isn’t a part of the Arrowverse, one can’t help but draw the comparison when the worst reviewed Arrowverse show in Constantine sits over 50% higher than Gotham Knights. Even the non-Arrowverse shows such as Superman and Lois and Stargirl eclipse Gotham Knights in quality, with the latter’s second season sitting at 100% on the site. It’s currently unknown if Gotham Knights will be renewed for a second season, though the consensus does not bode well for its chances.

A Death In The Family

The plot synopsis of Gotham Knights reads as follows: “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.”

Written by Batwoman’s Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, the series stars Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Rahart Adams as Brody.
