Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani is quite similar to Tom Holland in this regard.
Following the Moon Knight finale, Marvel Studios is looking to introduce yet another new superhero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney Plus. Ms. Marvel, which will star actress Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan looks to bring in yet another young would-be Avenger into the mix. Naturally, with another young superhero joining in the fun, one cannot help but think back to perhaps the most famous young Avenger of them all: Spider-Man (Tom Holland).
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige sang the praises of Iman Vellani, comparing her favorably to Tom Holland when she first stepped into the role as Ms. Marvel:
“Much like Tom Holland and and Peter Parker, Iman is a much bigger Marvel fan than we realized. (On set) she carries this Unabomber notebook with her everywhere, with her scribbles and ideas. And why wouldn’t we want to hear them? Not just because she’s playing the lead, she’d be commenting on the show online. So better comment before the show’s done, and try to incorporate some of those ideas.”
Iman Vellani and Tom Holland are both fans of their own characters.
Kevin Feige‘s statement that Iman Vellani would be commenting on the series online is interesting to hear, given that based on what we’ve seen from the show so far, it’s clear that Kamala Khan herself is a fangirl about the Avengers, especially Captain Marvel. In a way, that approach in the character reflecting the real-life dynamic of the actress bodes well for her role.
In regards to the comparison to Tom Holland, one might dismiss this as Kevin Feige hyping up his next Disney Plus project by comparing it to perhaps his biggest star, Spider-Man. But even if that’s part of it, the fact that Holland has previously exhibited a passion for the role beyond just his work but also the history behind it, is akin to the passion that Iman Vellani reportedly has for Ms. Marvel.
Although Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker currently has new priorities separate from the Avengers, here’s hoping that he and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan will eventually meet up sometime in the future, perhaps alongside other young Avengers for new adventures to tell in the MCU. After all, seeing Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel together would be a sight to behold.
Here is the synopsis for Ms. Marvel:
Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
The upcoming MCU series Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, and Farhan Akhtar. Episodes of the series will be directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with Bisha K. Ali serving as the head writer. Kevin Feige is involved in the series as an executive producer.
Ms. Marvel will hit Disney Plus on June 8th. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming Disney Plus series, Kevin Feige, Iman Vellani, and Tom Holland, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
