James Gunn revealed that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will have a soundtrack that also includes original music.
One of the most iconic elements of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies is the soundtracks. From Star-Lord’s respective Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, a wide array of retro songs that he and his mother used to listen to together are at the heartbeat of those films. Naturally, with the upcoming Holiday Special, one would expect to hear some new tunes as well.
Of course, James Gunn took to Twitter to confirm that The Holiday Special will have a soundtrack of its own. And better yet, there will be some original music included as well:
Did James Gunn write original holiday songs?
The revelation that there will be an Awesome Holiday Mix isn’t all that surprising, but the fact that original music will be featured is also quite fascinating. Prior to his filmmaking career, James Gunn was part of a band known as The Icons and was the lead vocalist. He also composed songs for Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and Movie 43.
The idea of James Gunn writing original songs for this special is quite intriguing, especially since it can lead to yet another fun original song for an MCU Disney Plus project, similar to WandaVision’s “Agatha All Along,” which won composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez an Emmy.
Along with the MCU holiday special, James Gunn is currently filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji.
Vol. 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023, while The Holiday Special will be available to stream on Disney Plus this holiday season.
