A new set photo from Batgirl starring Leslie Grace hint at a possible appearance by Hugo Strange.
After years in development, production on the upcoming DC Extended Universe film Batgirl is currently underway. The film, which stars In the Heights breakout star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon will be the first time in which we see the titular heroine on screen since 1997’s infamous Batman & Robin, in which Alicia Silverstone played the character. Now, it looks like we are getting some surprising tie-ins to the rest of the lore of Gotham City, with the possibility of Hugo Strange being involved.
In a new Batgirl set photo that shared on Twitter, we see a graphic posted on a Gotham City billboard hung up. We see an illustration of an individual that bears a resemblance to the character of Hugo Strange, with markings over his eyes and two “EXCELLENT!” captions on the top and bottom of the graphic.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.
DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character. J.K. Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, with Brendan Fraser appearing as the villain Firefly.
