The cast for HBO Max and Leslie Grace’s Batgirl film grows larger.
Batgirl is officially in production. Set photos from earlier this week confirmed that Leslie Grace’s debut as Batgirl was officially rolling cameras. While some easter eggs to the larger DCEU were spotted, details are largely slim on the upcoming HBO Max film.
We know that Michael Keaton will be returning as Batman after returning as The Caped Crusader in The Flash. J. K. Simmons will also reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon, the father of Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon. The main villain is set to be played by 90s screen icon Brendan Fraser. While principal characters seem to have been hedged in, the film is now rounding out other key players.
The Hollywood Reporter hears that Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson, and Ethan Kai are set to join Leslie Grace in Glasgow for the HBO Max shoot. The historical and gothic city of Glasgow has operated as Gotham City for The Flash, as well as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, though the latter isn’t connected to the DCEU. Details on the trio are being kept under lock and key. One can imagine that the trio will operate as supporting roles.
Rebecca Front is well-known for her appearances in British comedies such as The Thick Of It. Corey Johnson has appeared in a large number of UK productions, including Doctor Who and Kingman: The Secret Service. Johnson has a role in Sony’s Morbius. Ethan Kai was last seen in BBC’s Killing Eve.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.
DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character. J.K. Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser appearing as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman.
