Beauty And The Beast star Luke Evans insists that the planned Disney Plus series is still in development despite the delays.

Way back in early 2020, it was revealed that a new Beauty And The Beast series was in development for Disney Plus. The series was said to be a prequel to the 2017 live-action remake of the same name and would focus on Luke Evans’ Gaston and Josh Gad’s Le Fou. Unfortunately, development on the series has been incredibly slow.

For a time, it appeared as if the Beauty And The Beast prequel series would happen. It seemed to be moving forward in mid-2021 but then something happened behind the scenes. In early 2022 it was revealed that Disney had shelved the planned series. It appeared to have been delayed for a number of reasons which included scheduling issues, creative differences, and the fact that most of the actors would not be available if production was pushed back. Now star Luke Evans has confirmed some of this.

Luke Evans Says It’s All About Getting It Right

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luke Evans discussed the Beauty And The Beast Disney Plus prequel and insisted that the series was still happening, stating that they wanted to get it right:

“It’s been put on hold. We just wanna make sure that it is absolutely the best it can be, and if that means we just have to wait a little longer to finesse certain pieces of it, then that’s what we’re going to do because this is a very important legacy. We want to honor these characters with the best story we can possibly deliver. It’s just on hold. It is gonna happen. We’re very excited about it. At some point in the near future, it will happen.”

Directed by Bill Condon, Beauty and the Beast stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Here’s the official synopsis:

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Beauty and the Beast is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Luke Evans’ planned Disney Plus series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
