Peter Sarsgaard recently opened up about working on The Batman and teased Robert Pattinson’s “really cool” work in the upcoming film.
When it was first reported that Green Lantern actor Peter Sarsgaard was joining The Batman, many pegged him as Harvey Dent. It has since been revealed that Sarsgaard is indeed playing a Gotham City district attorney, but one that goes by the name of Gil Colson. Not much else is known about Sarsgaard’s role in the film other than his character being, “a politician that has trouble telling the truth.”
The Batman was a quarter of the way through filming in the United Kingdom before the pandemic put a pause on productions around the world. The production delay also resulted in the film getting pushed back from July 2021 to October 2021, but we’ve still seen a few images of Robert Pattinson in the new batsuit from the highly anticipated film. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Sarsgaard recently opened up about what it has been like working with Robert Pattinson as Batman so far:
“He looks amazing. I have to say, he really, really does. The work he was doing was really cool. I really dug his Batman, and I can’t wait to see it [on-screen]. I think he’s a very interesting actor, and […] I loved him in the Safdie brothers movie [Good Time] that he did. And I actually really liked this one he just did […] the comedy movie with Willem Dafoe. The Lighthouse. He’s just an interesting, interesting actor.”

Plot details for The Batman are under wraps but the project will be centered on Pattinson as a younger Caped Crusader, chronicling Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. The film is also expected to be the first installment to a new trilogy with Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
