Ray Porter Explains How He Landed Darkseid Role In Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

Darkseid actor Ray Porter reveals how he was cast as the Lord of Apokolips in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Although he was cut from the theatrical version of Justice League, fans can finally expect to see Ray Porter’s Darkseid when Zack Snyder’s cut of the film arrives on HBO Max next year. During a recent interview with The Film Exiles, Porter finally revealed how he landed the role, explaining that the director likes to hear his scripts and Porter’s background in recording audiobooks saw the two working together to narrate the film’s scripts and its rewrites.

“Zack heard from somebody that I narrate audiobooks, and Zack really likes to hear his scripts. [There’s] something more immediate and something more visceral when you hear the words spoken as opposed to just sitting and reading them on the page. So I helped him, essentially narrating the scripts and some of the rewrites and things like that.”

Darkseid actor Ray Porter went to praise the Justice League director, calling Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah the “kindest people” ever. Porter then mentioned that discovered he was chosen to play the villain, he was most excited about meeting fans at San Diego Comic-Con and seeing toys of himself. Hopefully with the release of the Snyder Cut, Porter will get to see a figure of his Darkseid sooner rather than later. The star recently mentioned that he’d love to join Ava DuVernay’s New Gods, but hasn’t heard anything about the film just yet.

“And Zack and I get along really well. He’s an amazing guy, he and Deborah are both the kindest people ever. And then I got word that he wanted me to play Darkseid. The thing I was most excited about playing the role was, ‘Oh God, I get to go to [San Diego] Comic-Con and meet fans, I can’t wait. I hope I get to sign something,’. Really, seriously, I was like, ‘I hope they make a toy I can point at and go, that’s me’. It was unfortunate, it happens. It’s Hollywood. It hurt, it was sad, but I dealt with it and moved on.”

Here’s the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
