Zack Snyder’s Darkseid actor Ray Porter has revealed that he currently isn’t set to star in Ava DuVernay’s upcoming New Gods film.
In case you missed it, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be releasing to HBO Max in 2021. As expected, the internet went crazy over the announcement, including some key players from the film. The Zack Snyder cut of the film will feature never-before-seen characters including Martian Manhunter and Darkseid. Earlier this week, Ray Porter revealed that he starred in the film as Darkseid. While we haven’t even seen his take on the character, the world is curious to know if he’ll be reprising his role as Darkseid in Ava DuVernay’s highly anticipated New Gods film.
In a recent interview with the Lightcast podcast, the Zack Snyder actor revealed that he currently isn’t set to star in New Gods and hasn’t had any conversations with Ava DuVernay regarding a role in the movie.
“No, I have not. I know a lot of people on Twitter have been making noise about it and I’m really grateful, and I love that, and obviously I’d love to hear from Ava about New Gods, but I also respect that Ava’s got a vision for this project. And if I’m not a part of that vision, that’s just the way it is, and that’s okay. My hope is that it’s something the fans are going to love as well. But I haven’t heard from Ava yet.”
Earlier this month, Ava DuVernay revealed that she’s currently working on the fourth draft for New Gods. With the project sill in the early days of pre-production, it’s entirely possible that Ray Porter could portray Darkseid. At the beggining of the year, DuVernay even suggested that she’s taking fan castings into consideration. The biggest fan cast, after all, has to be the actor who portrayed him in the same cinematic universe! While Ray Porter may not be in talks with DuVernay, we’re certain that Zack Snyder can hype him up for New Gods.

Directed by Ava DuVernay from a script she is co-writing with Tom King, Warner Bros. and DC’s New Gods film will be based on characters created and designed by Jack Kirby. Details on the film are currently unknown, though comic book incarnations of the New Gods have included characters such as Granny Goodness, Desaad, Godfrey, and the powerful villain Darkseid.
New Gods is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Supergirl, The Suicide Squad, and Shazam 2.
