Is Ryan Coogler getting ready to direct the X-Men? Marvel Studios reportedly had their eye on the director to take control of the long-awaited reboot.
There’s been a lot of rumors floating around about the upcoming X-Men reboot. If there’s a category of rumor, it’s probably been written: casting speculation, villain confirmations, and even screenwriting candidates. The one part of the equation that Marvel Studios has mostly been able to keep under wraps is who the director of the project will end up being.
This is mostly because, if the sheer quantity of rumors is true, Marvel Studios is throwing everyone at the wall to see what director sticks. The most recent rumor reveals that the studio wants Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier to helm the reboot. However, before him the Russo Brothers were floated as a possible duo to take the reigns of the X-Men, and even horror icon Jordan Peele was said to be in the mix for the job!
Will Ryan Coogler Direct The X-Men Reboot?
The latest rumor to hit the net comes from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic. The scooper reveals that Marvel Studios actually wanted Black Panther and Sinners director Ryan Coogler to take on the leading role for the X-Men reboot. However, due to timing considerations, the company decided to go in a different direction.
This makes sense, given what fans know about Ryan Coogler’s current slate. While he will return to work with Marvel Studios to finish their Black Panther trilogy, it’s likely that the success of Sinners has found him a new home with Warner Bros. Discovery. Taking on the director role on the X-Men reboot will also likely lock whoever does it into a three picture deal, likely meaning a full decade of their time spent on the franchise.
