Will Spider-Man finally face his most famous villain team? A new rumor suggests Sony Pictures is once more developing a Sinister Six movie.
The concept of a movie about the Sinister Six is undeniably a tempting one. They’re one of the most famous villain teams in comics, made up of the rogues gallery of Spider-Man, one of the most iconic heroes in existence. It’s almost understandable that Sony Pictures keeps stepping on the rake of developing the film over and over again.
Sony Pictures has attempted to make a Sinister Six film work no less than four times. First the studio attempted to make a redemption story for the team as a follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was ultimately cancelled when the film flopped. They then intended to make a Sinister Six film in the MCU alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, before attempting twice to make one in their villain universe: Once in 2016 with Drew Goodard attached to write and direct (which would’ve seen Spider-Man fight a T-Rex), and again with the failed post-credits scene in Morbius.
Is Sony Pictures Finally Making A Sinister Six Film?
After a two year break from the concept, Sony Pictures seems ready to jump back into the saddle. A new rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello suggests the studio is once again interested in making a Sinister Six film. It’s currently unclear which universe, or even which version of Spider-Man, this incarnation of the villain team will be tied to if it does in fact come to light.
It’s possible that this film may not be as doomed as other attempts to create a film based on Spider-Man’s villain roster. Earlier this year another rumor stated that Sony Pictures was interested in making an animated movie based off the Sinister Six. Given the studio has had quite a bit of success adapting comic book characters to animation, especially when compared to their live-action counterparts, it’s possible that this film could actually see the light of day.
