Tom Holland’s latest superhero film, Spider-Man: No Way Home has now earned over $800M worldwide, definitively making it the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, the film industry had to rethink the way it calculated success. Many films opted to release on streaming platforms instead of risking a theatrical debut while others opted to delay their release. The pandemic contained into 2021 and kept people away from theaters but the year has not been without its success stories.
Throughout the year F9: The Fast Saga earned over $726M worldwide with No Time to Die topping it, earning over $774M. While these numbers are far lower than what their predecessors some believe it indicates that movie theaters are making a comeback. Now the box office numbers of Spider-Man: No Way Home seem to support this.
From the start, it was clear that Spider-Man: No Way Home was going to earn a ton of cash. The film was projected to earn over $150M on its debut. That number turned out to be a huge underestimate as the film ended up earning over $253M in its debut, beating out Avengers: Infinity War. Now the film could soon very well be the highest-grossing film of the year.
According to a new report, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Wednesday estimates puts the film’s box office numbers well past $800M with $813.9M. This puts it well ahead of No Time to Die making it the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year. It also puts it in range to top the Chinese-produced Hi, Mom‘s $822M and The Battle at Lake Changjin‘s $902M. Time will tell if the Spider-Man film manages to surpass them.
