Netflix’s Stranger Things 4 reportedly cost $30 million per episode to produce.
When it comes to the most popular series on Netflix, perhaps a contender for the most popular is Stranger Things. After nearly three years since the third season dropped, the highly-anticipated Stranger Things 4 is finally coming next month. And based on the official trailer, it looks like the team spared no expense. Literally.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Netflix’s Stranger Things 4 cost a whopping $30 million for each episode. Given that Season 4 will be a total of 9 episodes, that brings the production total reaching roughly around $270 million, which is comparable to some of the biggest blockbuster films.
When it comes to the inflated production budget on Stranger Things 4, some would speculate that Netflix wanted to showcase as much as they could with one of their biggest IP’s. It is also unknown if the delays relayed by the pandemic have inflated the production budget of the series.
After Stranger Things 4, the blockbuster series will conclude with a fifth season, which the Duffer Brothers have confirmed was planned for the series’ completed arc. The show first premiered in 2016, and has since become one of the most-discussed series of the last decade, bringing Winona Ryder back into prominence while also making stars out of David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown among others.
Here is the synopsis for Stranger Things 4:
“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Netflix’s Stranger Things 4 stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, Joseph Quinn.
