‘Thor’ Star Chris Hemsworth Reveals His Conditions For Marvel Return

'It has to be something very special'

Thor: Love and Thunder Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth has spent over a decade playing the God of Thunder Thor in the MCU. Following the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, the star has revealed his conditions for returning to the role.

Despite being one of the most highly anticipated films of Phase 4 of the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder seemed to strike-out with audiences. This has left Chris Hemsworth’s return as the God of Thunder unsure, especially as the actor has taken a step away from acting following the news he’s at increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease. In a recent interview Hemsworth has said that he’s open to return as the character, but only for something very special:

“I have no idea. I’ve said it before, it all depends on the type of story,” Hemsworth told Spanish magazine AccionCine, “It has to be something unique. What I don’t want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I’m sure there’s something exciting to tell, so we’ll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find it.”

Given his prominence in the MCU, it’s more likely than not that Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor in either Avengers: Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. Beyond that, there’s no way for fans to know if Love and Thunder will serve as his last solo-outing as the God of Thunder. Though given how the film ended, it wouldn’t be the worst ending for the god who has lost so much.

Hercules v Thor: Dawn of Thunder?

Taika Waititi’s comments regarding the MCU’s plans for Hercules are quite interesting. When you factor in the fact that recently, numerous titles were trademarked for Marvel Studios, one of those was Hercules: Rise of the Gods. Whether or not this is referring to a new film or TV series remains unknown, but this trademark was also listed alongside now-confirmed titles such as Captain America: New World Order, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
