Tom Holland nearly got burnout filming Spider-Man: No Way Home and Uncharted back-to-back.
As one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood right now, Tom Holland is one of the busiest of his generation. Of course, he’s most recognized around the world for his role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker, especially after the release of his record-breaking blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, he has another Sony Pictures film coming up with the long-awaited Uncharted movie.
Having jumped straight from filming Uncharted to Spider-Man: No Way Home basically back-to-back, Tom Holland got pretty close to experiencing burnout, feeling exhaustion from overworking himself on two massive films so close together. While promoting Uncharted, he reflected on this experience to THR:
“On Uncharted, there was a point in time where I had to make the call and say, ‘Guys, I’m going to need a weekend because if not, I’m going to sort of fall apart.’ I got quite a nasty bit of tendinitis in my hamstring, which held me back quite a bit, but thankfully, that was more toward the end of the shoot. But the studio was fantastic. They were incredibly helpful. They understood and recognized how hard I was working, and they gave me the time off that I needed.”
Principal photography on Uncharted began in March 2020 and was shutdown for a bit due to the pandemic. Tom Holland finished his scenes sometime in October 2020, and immediately started work on Spider-Man: No Way Home sometime afterwards. It’s safe to say that as the top-billed star of two massive films for Sony Pictures, a schedule as packed as his would test his limits, and it’s nice to hear that he was able to take some time off to recharge so he doesn’t experience burnout.
Audiences can see Tom Holland in theaters now in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Meanwhile, his next film Uncharted is on the way. You can read the synopsis here:
“Uncharted introduces audiences to street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure-hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Inspired by the acclaimed video game series, this action-adventure epic spans the globe and follows Nate and Sully as they embark on the dangerous pursuit of ‘the greatest treasure never found’ while also tracking clues that may lead to Nate’s long-lost brother.”
Directed by Reuben Fleischer from a script written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, Uncharted is being produced by Sony PlayStation Productions, with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan producing alongside Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.
Uncharted will be released in theaters and IMAX on February 18th, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Tom Holland’s upcoming film as well as his future as Spider-Man, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
