The OG Blade, Wesley Snipes broke his silence on social media Saturday to comment about the reboot in the works with Mahershala Ali and the behind the scenes drama to get the film off the ground. Yann Demange was the second director to leave the project.
“Blade, lordylordylordy 👀 folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough,” Snipes said on X. “Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?”
Snipes’ comments follow Mahershala Ali’s attorney Shelby Weiser, who also commented about the project. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter for their lawyer issue, Weiser said “That deal was in 2019, and they still haven’t shot it, which is pretty much the craziest thing in my professional experience.” Ouch.
Blade has had a troubled production and had been languishing in development hell to sa the least. The MCU reboot has gone through multiple writers, with MCU ace writer Eric Pearson being the latest to take a crack at the script following multiple delays. It finally seemed the project was back on track, with Marvel reportedly setting the reboot to begin production sometime this summer in Mexico.
There’s no word on why Yann Demange left the upcoming reboot, but the split is being described as amicable. However, with the film’s release date rapidly approaching, Marvel is currently out to directors to helm the reboot.
The Ever-Shifting Cast Of Marvel’s Blade
The drama with the Blade reboot isn’t just limited behind the camera. Marvel Studios has had a fluid cast ever since the project was first announced. While Mahershala Ali is still attached to the project, Aaron Pierre was let go a while back. This was reportedly due to his role being dropped in recent incarnations of the script.
Blade is expected to introduce the villainous Lilith, with most rumors pointing to horror icon Mia Goth as the actress attached to the role. However, Marvel is reportedly looking for another villain to share the spotlight in the reboot, and is currently looking for actors to fill the part.
Marvel Studios Blade will be released on November 7, 2025.
