Fans may have to wait just a bit longer for David Corenswet’s Superman costume! DC Studios co-head James Gunn has revealed why he’s keeping the actor’s superhero suit under wraps.

Ever since James Gunn announced that David Corenswet would be playing Superman in his DC Universe, fans have been begging for an official suit reveal. While the internet did get a taste of the suit with a Superman symbol reveal, Gunn has done a surprisingly good job at keeping the full outfit under wraps.

This has led fans of the DC Universe to do what they do best: bug James Gunn on social media until he gives them an answer! When asked why he hasn’t put out an official reveal of David Corenswet in his costume, Gunn simply answered that it’s because Superman doesn’t hit theaters until July 2025.

While it’s certainly understandable that James Gunn would want to hold off revealing the suit until closer to the release date, it may not be up to him. Photos from the set of Superman have already begun to leak. Given reporters will be keeping their eyes peeled for any sign of David Corenswet in his costume, it’s likely only a matter of time until fans see his suit for the DC Universe, whether Gunn likes it or not.

The Inspirations Behind David Corenswet’s Superman Suit

It’s clear that James Gunn is taking a completely new approach to his and Peter Safran’s DC Universe than those before them. It’s clear a lot of love and care is being put into projects like Superman, with older works being treated with a high level of reverence.

The Superman symbol being used in James Gunn’s DC Universe debut is modeled after the classic Kingdom Come storyline. However, given the comic focuses on a much older version of the Man of Steel, it seems Gunn is twisting the concept on its head with David Corenswet’s younger version of the character.

Kingdom Come is far from the only inspiration James Gunn has had for Superman. The director recently revealed David Corenswet’s take on the character was inspired by media from all across the DC Universe. This includes comics like Superman for All Seasons and the New 52, movies like the Richard Donner films, and even shows like Superman: The Animated Series.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
