Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña has responded to Warner Bros Discovery’s cancelation of Batgirl.

Over the past few months, Warner Bros Discovery has made some controversial choices. The first big one was the cancelation of Batgirl followed by the removal of several HBO Max series. Most recently, the company opted to cancel 2022’s DC FanDome event as in-person events are available once again. However, it appears that none of these shakeups are affecting Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle film.

Production for Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle wrapped up in July but many have wondered if the film will share the same fate as Batgirl. The movie is reportedly safe for the moment but there is no telling when or if this may change. However, Blue Beetle‘s star doesn’t appear to be too concerned about it even if he doesn’t like what happened to Batgirl.

The Actor Speaks Out

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Xolo Maridueña responded to Batgirl‘s cancelation. He didn’t say much on the matter, stating that star Leslie Grace had said everything that needs to be said:

“It obviously feels very close, right? Warner Brothers and Beetle. But I think everything that has to be said on the topic has been spoken from [those involved]. I think the creators and Leslie said everything that had to be said.”

Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes made his first appearance in the pages of 2006’s Infinite Crisis #5. A live-action version of Jaime made an appearance in the Superman prequel series Smallville, with Jaren Brandt Bartlett playing the DC Comics hero.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto with a script from Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer the film stars Xolo Maridueña, Susan Sarandon, Raoul Trujillo, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén. The film is being produced by John Rickard with Zev Foreman, Walter Hamada and David Siegel serving as executive producers.

Blue Beetle is currently set to be released on August 18th, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
