Thor Love and Thunder Trailer Chris Hemsworth Taika Waititi

The debut trailer for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder brought in an impressive 209 million views in 24 hours.

After what seemed to be an eternity for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder dropped yesterday. The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth in his fourth standalone film as the God of Thunder was set to the tune of Guns N’ Roses’ classic hit “Sweet Child O’Mine” and featured him enjoying retirement from being a superhero and joining his new allies the Guardians of the Galaxy on new adventures.

It turns out the hunger to see the trailer for the highly-anticipated film was quite high, given that within its first 24 hours, this first look at Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder amassed a stunning 209 million views across numerous platforms. When compared to other entries in the MCU, it stands behind the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 355.5 million views, Avengers: Endgame’s 289 million views, and Avengers: Infinity War’s 230 million views.

The film marks the return of Chris Hemsworth’s beloved Avenger for the first time in over three years since he was seen in Avengers: Endgame. This also marks nearly five years since his last standalone film, Taika Waititi’s acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok, which critics and audiences often consider to be the standout film in the God of Thunder’s series thus far.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn and Russell Crowe.
