Will Rey be the new face of Star Wars? A new report indicates that Daisy Ridley is being eyed as a key figure in the future of the franchise.
Star Wars is going through an interesting time of transition. After a sequel trilogy that failed to capture the hearts and minds of fans, the franchise has been stuck exploring its past with projects like The Mandalorian and Andor as they try to find a new future. Even more seem to be on the horizon, with project’s like James Mangold’s film about the origins of the Jedi and season 2 of Ahsoka being some of the only hype-builders left.
Yet it seems Star Wars may have finally found their path forward. Or at least, their guiding star. An article by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Daisy Ridley’s Rey is set to be a key player in the future of the series. According to the report, the character is currently seen as the most valuable cinematic asset that the franchise has. This is likely due to the last trilogy killing off most of the big names from the original trilogy, leaving Rey as the only remaining character to helm a blockbuster film, even in spite of their flaws.
When Will Daisy Ridley Return As Rey?
The only films that the report outright confirmed that Daisy Ridley is being eyed for is the recently announced trilogy that’s going to be written by Simon Kinberg. Rey will also be getting her own movie helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which will likely set up her arc and disciples heading into this new era of Star Wars. However, the report also states that her starring role in both films may cause friction between filmmakers as they craft their own visions for the character’s future.
Though those four films aren’t the only Star Wars projects Rey is set to appear in. It was stated that several other projects involving Daisy Ridley in some capacity were in development, though it wasn’t specified what they were. It’s possible that Lucasfilm will use the actress to bolster upcoming Disney Plus projects following The Acolyte‘s failure, or that a whole new slate of projects for the next saga are already being planned outside of the trilogy, a first for the blockbuster franchise.
