In other The Flash news, Variety has revealed that Warner Bros. insiders are extremely excited for the release of The Flash. In fact, WB executives haven’t been this hopeful about a comic book-related release since the Dark Knight movies from Christopher Nolan.
The Flash is testing through the roof right now, with Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle said to be among the highlights of the movie. “Almost everything about The Flash points to a massive summer sensation,” according to Variety.
A recent report revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, Ezra Miller has been making headlines over a string of arrests and criminal charges. The actor is seeking treatment for mental health issues.
Per Variety, Ezra Miller has stayed out of trouble after starting mental health treatment. Miller’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed by Warner Bros. Discovery executives, who almost fired the actor from the DC Universe after the troubling headlines started making the rounds on the internet.
A separate Variety report recently revealed that Warner Bros. executives are open to the idea of keeping Ezra Miller as Barry Allen after the release of The Flash, despite the actor’s recent legal issues. Miller has stayed out of trouble since a meeting with executives at the studio.
Warner Bros. recently moved up the release of The Flash to June 16, 2023. The movie is now hitting theaters one week after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and two weeks before Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It’s one of the final DC Comics movies arriving before James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe plans become a reality.
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.
In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
