Sony chairman Tom Rothman gave an update regarding Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have had quite a lot to celebrate since December. The release of Spider-Man: No Way Home led to record-breaking box office numbers, especially when one takes into account the global pandemic. Now, all eyes are on what is in store for Tom Holland in the future, particularly with Spider-Man 4.

In an interview with Deadline, Sony’s Tom Rothman gave some updates regarding what Sony has planned for Spider-Man 4, and when asked about the involvement of Jon Watts, Tom Holland and Zendaya, he responded with the following:

“That whole group, we hope. Then there are movies I would call adjunct to the Spider-Man universe. That’s Kraven, which we’re shooting now, and Madam Web, which we’ll start in the spring with S.J. Clarkson directing. And then there are many Marvel characters that are standalone. When I took over Sony, it was said, oh, Sony has no IP. Not true. We actually had fantastic IP. We just needed to focus on it. We had JumanjiBad BoysUnchartedGhostbusters, another example. Just before I got here, they took a turn down a road that didn’t work out that well. But because of Jason Reitman and his relationship with Ivan, may he rest in peace, we were able to resuscitate that into a tremendous success, both theatrically and in home entertainment.”

Are Jon Watts and Zendaya returning for Spider-Man 4?

Based on Tom Rothman’s comments, it appears that Sony is hoping to bring back both Jon Watts and Zendaya for Spider-Man 4. Clearly, the two are quite busy with their own projects, with Watts’ recent departure from Fantastic Four and working on a new Star Wars series for Disney Plus, while Zendaya is one of the most in-demand actresses in the world right now.

Rest assured, Tom Holland is likely to return as Peter Parker in Sony’s Spider-Man 4, and even if Zendaya’s MJ may end up returning as well, here’s hoping it continues the narrative threads set up in No Way Home, in which Peter has to move on from his previous life thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell, and learn to become the man he’s meant to be, both in the suit and out of it.

No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Be sure to continue following us for more news on Sony’s Spider-Man 4, as well as Tom Holland’s future in the role, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
