Disney Pressured Marvel To Announce Key Phase 6 Projects

They weren't ready!

As massive changes come to Marvel’s Phase 6 slate, many fans have begun to think Disney was premature with some of its biggest announcements. It seems these suspicions were right, with Disney allegedly pressuring Marvel to announce multiple key projects before they were ready.

This revelation comes from the pages of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios. According to authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards, Disney’s investors were getting jumpy following the COVID-19 pandemic. This led the company to pressure Marvel to make big announcements at its 2020 Investor Day, including the premature announcement of two Phase 6 projects: Fantastic Four and Armor Wars.

According to insiders, these projects were far from being ready. This is also why, while every other project announced at the 2020 Investor Day is either out or in post-production, neither Fantastic Four nor Armor Wars have even started filming. While the temporary boost in MCU excitement may have helped investors back in 2020, it’s clear Disney may have hurt Marvel in the long run.

What we know about the Fantastic Four movie

The Fantastic Four reboot is expected to be a fresh take on the classic Marvel characters, with a new cast. Matt Shakman is directing the movie from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. It is currently scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.

John Krasinski played the Earth-838 variant of Reed Richards in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his future as the character is currently in doubt. Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt has said that she’s hopeful we’ll see the actor back as Richards for Fantastic Four.

Fantastic Four opens on May 2, 2025.  Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
